Personal Values

People

People are important for what they are and not because of what they have or don’t have. They were created male and female God like. Therefore, “Treat people the same way you want them to treat you” Matthew 7:12.

Servant Leadership

The best leadership style is and has been servant leadership. Jesus was a servant leader.  Servant leadership is not weakness. The world is suffering from a lack of servant leaders. “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant” Matthew 23:11.

Equality of Sexes

Men and women are equal; they are equal bearers of the divine image. Therefore, there is no superiority or inferiority of sexes. Nevertheless, equality of sexes is not the same as identity of sexes. Male and female are different, they are not identical.

Justice

God demands justice in all dealings and transactions. He is “ the Protector of the poor and the Establisher of the right for those who are oppressed. To know God is to experience the acts of God in the concrete affairs and relationships of people, liberating the weak and the helpless from pain and humiliation” (Cone). “. . . It is not optional and it is not also inconsequential whether or not we as Christians engage in works of justice” (McMickle 2006, 43).

Love

The call to love people is nonnegotiable. “A new commandment I give you that you love one another” John 13:34-35. “Love thy neighbor is a precept which could transform the world if it were universally practiced” (Bethune).
