As the AME Church adapts to the global changes taking place, there is need for more Agents of Change. Organizations that will survive are those that are quickly adopting to change. Those who have tarried long enough in the AME Church would agree that the church needs a tremendous make over. Bishops and pastors have openly preached about the need to change, for instance in opening sermon of the 44th session of the General Conference held in Orlando Florida in 1992 was entitled “What is your Report”.
Many rhetoric questions were raised such as “What is the AME Church’s report concerning our overseas brothers and sisters? What is our economic report as the AME Church? What is our report? We are seeing our schools closing, our churches are empty and our young people are going to Baptist and other churches and yet we are busy talking about who is in charge. What is our report to our young people? . . . This sermon has stayed on my mind for 19 years. Think about it. Is it not time to change?
